Rural Bulletin: Brexit

28/03/2017 by Jennifer Whitton

However you feel about Brexit, there is one thing for certain - we are all in it together and must therefore ensure that we do all we can to put ourselves in the best position to make the most of whatever outcome we face.

Whilst none of us has a crystal ball, there will undoubtedly be rough and difficult times ahead with the prospect of losing farm subsidy payments and the introduction of export tariffs on produce.  There may however, also be great opportunities to come with greater ability to decide on our own regulations and encourage self-sufficiency.

Looking at your own situations, we believe the best way to prepare is to expand your income portfolio, looking at introducing other income streams to enhance farming income and we are on hand to provide advice on ways of going about this - whether it is swapping land for residential property, or looking at how else to use your property assets to take advantage of existing funding schemes to provide an income stream in the future so your business is not so dependent on farm subsidy and income.

Look at the positives; don't dwell on the negatives and the propaganda.  This is an opportunity to change the way things are done and should be embraced - and we are here to help.
