Severn Trent Water – Packington to River Tame Pipeline Scheme

Severn Trent Water (STW) are looking to carry out an upgrade of existing treatment sites at Packington, Measham Pump Station, and Measham Treatment Works in Leicestershire.

They are also proposing to install a new 24km pipeline, connecting the three STW treatment sites into a combined transfer pipe and pumping the flows to the River Tame, near the village of Elford in Staffordshire.

We are advised that the purpose of the scheme is to improve the water quality and flow regime of the River Mease, which is a protected watercourse and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), by effectively providing a ‘bypass’ for the river, so that treated effluent can enter the river system at a less sensitive location. 

STW wants to deliver the project by March 2027 and landowner consultations are currently ongoing, alongside the design of the scheme, to ascertain the best route and pipeline parameters.

The new pipeline cuts across a large area of the country and will affect a large number of farmers and landowners.
