Holly Thompson has recently joined the rural south team at Howkins & Harrison, based in our head office at Rugby. This is an appointment that significantly strengthens the rural team in this area. Her focus will be on the sale of land and rural property in addition to RICS Valuations for inheritance tax purposes, loan security and probate purposes, estate management, assisting with the Kelmarsh Hall Estate, option and easement negotiations and telecom negotiations.
Holly graduated in 2017 with a degree in Rural Enterprise and Land Management from Harper Adams University, which included a year at Chatsworth Estate, gaining experience as a Trainee Land Agent.
Following graduation, Holly joined a multi-disciplinary practice where she qualified as a Rural Practice Chartered Surveyor (MRICS). She managed several estates on behalf of large utility companies across the UK, advising clients on landlord and tenant matters (agricultural and commercial), land use, access agreements, land disputes (including boundary & unauthorised access), in addition to acting on behalf of utility providers. In the renewables sector, Holly’s roles included negotiating and agreeing compensation following required operational works, the implementation of Compulsory Purchase Orders or Development Consent Orders. She also helped her client to negotiate access over land for water, gas and electricity purposes. Holly was heavily involved with the training team, helping graduate surveyors on their journey to become Chartered in addition to qualifying as an RICS APC Assessor.
Holly grew up in Nottinghamshire and moved to Northamptonshire in 2020, where she and her husband Charlie bought a house close his family farm in Long Buckby. Holly’s interests outside of work include touch rugby, skiing, netball, and long walks with her spaniel Betty, with the obligatory pub stop-off. One of Holly’s biggest passions is running, and she can be found in the Guinness World Records book twice – the first for the fastest marathon in a five-person costume and the second for the fastest marathon in a six-person costume! Although great fun, these successful world record attempts form part of a wide range of sponsored activities and fundraising events that Holly has undertaken since her brother lost his battle with cancer a few years ago. Her fundraising efforts, including an 8-marathon year, as well as completing an ultra-marathon, have raised an incredible £46,000 in memory of her brother, Guy.
