Slurry Infrastructure Grant Round 2

DEFRA has initiated the second phase of the Slurry Grant, offering £74 million to support enhancing water and air quality by investing in slurry infrastructure on farms across England. This grant is available to dairy, beef, and pig farmers across England.

Those who own land and those who lease it are eligible to apply. The requirement specifies that the slurry store should be constructed on land either owned by the applicant or farmed as a tenant.

Farming minister Mark Spencer said: “We’re indebted to farmers who work day in day out to ensure we have great British food on our tables while protecting and shaping our countryside. It’s vital they are supported to make the environmental improvements I know so many want to make. Our Slurry Infrastructure Grant is helping farmers to invest in infrastructure which is often costly but can deliver big benefits for our waterways and air quality, while also cutting their input costs.” 

The grant enables more farmers to exceed current storage demands, aiding in better regulatory compliance and optimizing the utilization of organic nutrients.

Applications are now open (21st November 2023), and farmers can benefit from up to 50% coverage for the construction expenses of covered slurry stores, tanks, lagoons and associated buildings, equipment, and slurry store accessories.

Businesses can access grant funding ranging from £25,000 to £250,000 under this new scheme. The program expansion now includes eight months worth of slurry storage for pig producers and covers additional items such as slurry separators, covers for current storage facilities, and concrete stores.
