Sale Report 73rd Midshires Produce Auction 26.11.19

73rd Midshires Produce Auction – Tuesday 26th November 2019

DEMAND FOR STRAW OUT STRIPS THE PRICES PAID FOR HAY

An entry of approximately 5,000 tonnes was offered for sale at Lutterworth Rugby Football Club, Bitteswell for the first Midshires Produce Auction of the winter. With samples available from the vast majority of vendors, prospective purchasers were able to bid with confidence as to the quality of fodder on offer.

Farmers showed a great deal of caution in their willingness to commit to making purchases. Let’s hope the arrival of the Single Farm Payment money welcomes a change of fortune.

The sale commenced with Mr Corney’s Massey Ferguson bales of Meadow Hay, for immediate delivery, achieving £34 per bale. Mr Holman sold Massey Ferguson Bales of Spring Barley Straw for £20.80 a bale and Messrs F J Garner & Son sold New Holland Bales of Spring Barley Straw for £17.60 a bale. Massey Ferguson bales of Wheat Straw entered by Messrs M & B Boffey, achieved £17.50 a bale. Claas Quadrant bales of Meadow Hay from AG & J Williams sold for up to £18 per bale.

We now look forward to the January Fodder Sale and vendors are encouraged to enter lots for the next sale to be held on Tuesday 7th January 2020. Please contact Stuart Long or Jenny Hannah on 01788 564749.
